Gurock Software has announced that it will grant free licences for TestRail, its popular web-based test case management tool, for use by anyone developing Open Source products. Although TestRail itself is a proprietary product, Gurock uses OS software extensively. Applying is very simple and there appears to be no catch and no condition other than publishing a link to the TestRail website on the OS project website.

It can be hoped that taking up this offer will make integrated, systematic testing more prominent in OS, which is currently very developer-led, especially since TestRail integrates very well with the web-based defect tracking tools most OS teams already use. That would make OS development more efficient and products more dependable, bringing widespread benefit.
