Only 4% of IT Professionals Have Discovered the Value of Crowd Testing and Freelance Testing

QualiTest’s crowd and freelancer testing survey focused on understanding an IT professional’s experience who has used crowdsourced testing and freelance testing platforms, as compared to the perceptions of those who were familiar with the concepts but never used them. The survey included over 500 IT professionals, of which only 33% qualified for the survey by holding a relevant management position and indicating a familiarity with at least one of these models. Here are some of the key findings:
Industry Experience and adoption:
Major factors for why IT Professionals would not utilize crowd testing and freelance platforms include privacy, security, regulatory and concerns about the validity of both models’ compliance.
Received vs. perceived values
Cost savings
o User’s Experience – Experienced significant cost savings
o Non-User’s Perceptions – Did not expect cost savings
Test Coverage
o User’s Experience – Experienced increase in test coverage
o Non-User’s Perceptions – Did not expect increase in test coverage
Functional testing
o User’s Experience – Experienced improvements in functional testing for both crowdtesting and freelance models
o Non-User’s Perceptions – Expected improvement in functional testing under a crowdtesting model but not under a freelance model
Usability Testing -The highest value in using these models is in Usability testing. These result were similar across both models and were consistent for both the user’s experience and non-user’s perceptions.
Flexibility – Potential operational flexibility is not a value that was experienced or perceived from either models.
Compatibility Testing – These models offer relatively low value in the area of compatibility testing. These result are similar across both models and are consistent for both user’s experience and non-user’s perceptions
Managed Vs. Direct Engagement – Managed engagement models are preferred by both users and non-users. A managed engagement model is preferred significantly more for crowdtesting than for a freelanced testing model.
